Alpaca is hypoallergenic. Does not contain lanolin or dander. The natural properties of alpaca fleece makes it stain, odor, wind and flame resistant (it will not melt). Alpaca fiber is soft, luxurious, warm, cool and able to wick moisture. Alpaca fiber wicking properties are important in keeping moisture away from the skin so that it stays warm or cool and dry. ALPACA WOOL DOES NOT ITCH! Pockets of air are created when the alpaca fiber is spun creating a light fabric. With a semi hollow core alpaca fiber insulates while allowing for warmth and breathability.

About Alpacas

  • All Alpaca’s at Hansen Pass are ARI registered, micro-chipped and DNA & BVD tested. All our animals are halter trained and vaccinated.

  • The average Alpaca will consume 2 bales of Brome hay and select feedings of Alfalfa per month.
  • Their padded feet will not tear up your pastures.
  • No upper teeth so when grazing they won’t pull up grass by the roots.
  • Alpaca droppings are a wonderful way to fertilize pastures; with extremely slow release of nitrogen they will not burn the roots or the pasture/garden.
  • Hansen Pass Alpacas offers this great and environmentally friendly "poop" for sale as well. Contact us for more information!
  • Three stomachs to process food and a hard palate to chew cud. Alpaca’s eat grass hay 10-12% protein, vitamins, minerals, select feedings of Alfalfa, and fresh water.
  • Alpaca’s are gentle herd animals that don’t require a lot of fencing or housing. They are intelligent, curious, cute and observant. They will get a long with most other animals.
